Dental Emergency 1: If you fall and a bit of your tooth chipped off:

  • Call your dentist and give him a gist of the situation.
  • Your tooth may need to be endodontically treated before being restored.

Dental Emergency 2: You knocked out your tooth:

  • Rinse the knocked out tooth in water but don’t scrub. Hold it by the crown and not the roots; try to gently fit it back into its socket and rush to your dentist.
  • Get help immediately and there is a fair chance that the tooth will be salvaged.

Dental Emergency 3: If you bite your lip or tongue resulting in excessive bleeding:

  • The first step is to clean the bleeding area.
  • Apply a cold compress to decrease the bleeding and swelling.
  • If the bleeding is severe and does not stop, rush to your Dentist.

Dental Emergency 4: Damaged Braces

  • If your braces get debonded or damaged, call your orthodontist right away.
  • Damaged braces cannot wait; they have to be taken care of immediately.

Dental Emergency 5: Your Molar hurts

  • Brush and floss your teeth & rinse your mouth with warm water.
  • See your Dentist. Pain is an indication that something is wrong.
  • Don’t rub aspirin or any other painkiller on the teeth or gum, it can burn the tissue.

Dental Emergency 6: Pericoronitis

  • This is an infection of the gums around or overlying your wisdom tooth. It usually happens when your wisdom tooth is erupting.
  • The symptoms include swollen and irritated gums, bad breath, a bad taste in your mouth, or you being unable to open your mouth fully.
  • In such a case don’t delay a visit to your dentist.

Dental Emergency 7: Your filling or crown gets debonded:

  • Keep your crown safe & call your Dentist for an appointment.
  • Your crown needs to be re-cemented as soon as possible and your filling redone.

With that, you are now aware and well equipped with what to do in case of a Dental Emergency.

These emergencies can happen to you or your dear ones. Stay calm and be ‘dental wise’.
