Recognizing Gingivitis?

  1. Swollen gums: It is a clear sign of gingivitis and should not be ignored.

  1. Bright red or purple gums: Healthy gingiva is firm & pink in color. Gingivitis if present, will lead to red and puffy gums.

  1. Tender gums: Gums tend to become sore in cases of gingivitis.

  1. Bleeding gums: Bleeding from gums after brushing & flossing is the most frequent symptom of gingivitis.

  1. Bad breath (halitosis): Its always wise to rule out gingivitis or other periodontal disease when you are suffering from bad breath.

Treating Gingivitis:

  1. Recognize the symptoms and visit your dentist immediately.

  1. The dentist will first perform a deep cleaning of your teeth and prescribe medication to offset the bacteria and inflammation.

  1. Practice good dental care at home to prevent Gingivitis from proceeding to Periodontitis.

  1. Brush and floss your teeth twice a day.

  1. Eat wise, avoid smoking & consuming tobacco and visit your dentist regularly.

Watch out for the subtle signs of Gingivitis and don’t let it grow to advanced gum disease that may require oral surgery.
